November 18, 2020 Dear Pyramid Lake Families, Given the high COVID infection rates and with guidance from Governor Sisolak, our Board of Education, and our parents and community, we are returning to virtual learning for all students. We have enjoyed having your children back in the building and watching them grow and learn very much and it is a difficult decision to send them back away again. However, the safety of the kids, their families, our community, and our staff is of utmost importance and we know this is the right thing to do right now. Classes will meet each day, Monday through Thursday. Classes will begin at 9:00 and end at 12:10. Please make sure your child is up and dressed and has a quiet area to work during this time. The schedule for Mondays is: Advisory 9:00-9:30; 4° 9:35-10:10; 5°; 10:15-10:50; 6°	10:55-11:30; 7° 11:35-12:10. The schedule for Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday is: 4° 9:00-9:45; 5° 9:50-10:35; 6° 10:40-11:25; 7° 11:30-12:10. Attendance will be taken in every class every day. During scheduled class times, your student will be in a live face-to-face video meeting using Google Meets. Your student will need to login using their PLHS Chromebook and using their PLHS email in order to attend their classes. If they login to calender.google.com using their PLHS email, they will see their scheduled Meets for each day. Most of their classwork will be posted in Google Classroom. When they login to classroom.google.com, they will see their courses. In each course there is a coursework tab where assignments will be posted. Please note that if your child submits a blank document, the assignment will still indicate that it was submitted. When you review your student’s schoolwork, it is important to check the work that was submitted. We are sending our virtual learning expectations along with this letter so you can work with your student to understand the most appropriate way to interact with their class and their teacher in a virtual environment. Your child’s teacher will have office hours each week. This will be a time when your child can stop in and get more help on lessons. If the scheduled office hours are not convenient for you and your student, our teachers will work with your student to schedule a time that is more convenient. Our classroom aides will also continue to support students in classes, and, at times, in one-on-one meets. If your student would prefer learning without video meets, we can enroll them into Edgenuity so they can work more independently. Our Virtual Learning Instructor will support students and teachers in their Edgenuity experience. Please call the school office at 775-574-1016 or call Mrs. Carpenter, our Parent and Family Involvement Coordinator at 775-431-7935 to learn more about this option. If your student is currently using Edgenuity but would prefer to join their classmates
in Google Meets, please contact us at either of the numbers above and we will make a plan to reintegrate them into classes. We want to make sure that the virtual learning experience is as successful as possible for your student. If you need a WiFi hotspot in order for your student to be able to attend Google Meets and do their coursework, please call or text (775) 442-9397 and we will arrange to get you one. Keep this number handy because it is also the number to call if your student is having in trouble with their Chromebook. Our food service will be sending breakfast and lunch out to our students each week. Please look out for more information about where and when your student can pick up their meals for the week. Unfortunately, as long as campus is shut down, we cannot have athletic practice or participate in NIAA events. We also will not be able to host in-person club meetings or other events. During this shut down, we will still have administrative staff answering phones. Please call the school office at 775-574-1016 and we will have staff to help you. We know that these are stressful times for many families and students. We hope you will help them understand that this is for the safety of the community and we will welcome them back into the school just as soon as it is safe enough to do so. School is not the same without them in the building and we will miss them very much. We hope you and your families remain safe and healthy and we hope we can welcome you to the school campus safely soon. Sincerely, Dr. Amanda Lister, Principal Sarah Russell, Assistant Principal
