End-of-year information for Laker and future Laker families!
almost 3 years ago, Sarah Russell
May 26, 2021 Dear Lakers Families, We did it! We survived the 2020-2021 school year. I would like to go over some end-of-the-year logistics with you. Tonight is our eighth grade promotion ceremony. Tomorrow, May 27, is the last day of school. Friday, May 28, will be our high school graduation ceremony at 6:00 PM. Both the promotion ceremony and the graduation ceremony attendance will be limited to guests with tickets only. We are sorry that this means some people will not be able to join us, but we are limiting the crowd size due to COVID safety protocols. We thank you for your understanding. The graduation ceremony will be livestreamed on our Facebook feed and broadcast on FM 107.9. The FM broadcast will not reach very far, so you will need to be parked near (but not at the school) to pick up this broadcast. Tomorrow, May 27, if your student attends school in-person, please make sure you send them with all of their technology, including Chromebooks, chargers, and a hot spot if they have one. We will send students home at noon instead of 1:00 pm. If your student does not attend school in-person, our transportation department will come by on Monday, June 7 to pick up Chromebooks, chargers, and hotspots. Transportation will also be dropping off meals as part of our summer lunch program for students in Wadsworth, Nixon, and Sutcliff starting on Monday, June 7. If you don’t live in one of those communities and would like to participate in the summer lunch program, please reach out to the school. We will be running summer school on-line only. Our virtual instruction teacher, Shari Dunn, will be working with students using Edgenuity. If your child would like to enroll in an Edgenuity course for either middle school or high school credit this summer, please email Ms. Dunn at dunnsk@plhs.us. We hope all of your students and their cousins and friends are going to join us next school year. Registration for new and returning students who will be in grades 6-12 for the 2021-22 school year begins on July 26. The office is open between 8:00 am and 4:00pm Monday through Thursday. We are planning our back to school barbeque for Wednesday, August 5. The first day of school will be Monday, August 9. At this point, we are optimistic that we will be able to hold school in-person for all students, but that decision can change depending on COVID infection rates. We will keep you informed as we learn more. As you may have heard, the CDC has approved the use of the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine for children aged 12-15. Please Check your local Tribal Health Department for updates on the availability for vaccines for ages 12-15. We hope you and your family have a wonderful summer. It’s been a long year for everyone and you all deserve some relaxation and a little summer fun. We can’t wait to see students back in August! Thank you, Sarah Russell Interim Principal

Information for families of graduating seniors.
almost 3 years ago, Sarah Russell
Dear families of PLHS graduating seniors, Graduation day is almost upon us! Congratulations to you and your graduate for all the hard work that has gotten you all to this point! The next week-and-a-half is very busy with events for your seniors. Tomorrow, Wednesday, May 19 is the last day for seniors to turn in work. Thursday, May 20 Seniors will be transported to school where they will have a final credit review to make sure they are done with everything they need to graduate. If they have all their requirements done, they will go to Fallon to watch a movie at Fox Peak Cinema. PLHS has rented out the theater for a private watch party. Students will be required to wear masks and maintain social distancing. They will return to school by 1:00 p.m. and take buses home. Monday, May 24 Graduating seniors will be transported to school, where they will walk the halls of the school wearing their caps and gowns for a recognition walk. After that, they will have graduation practice. Then, they will go to Natchez Elementary for an honor walk in front of students and staff there. After Natchez, they will go to the lake to take senior pictures at the pyramid and have a picnic lunch. Seniors will receive the Seight graduation tickets for family members at this time. Tuesday, May 25 At 2:00 p.m. teachers will leave PLHS to have a staff parade to honor seniors. We will drive to senior’s homes to deliver gift baskets and senior lawn posters Friday, May 28 🎓GRADUATION🎓 We are so excited to be able to offer an in-person, COVID-safe graduation this year. PLHS is grateful for the support from the Pyramid Lake Paiute Tribe, Pyramid Lake Fire Rescue/EMS, and Pyramid Lake Police Department whose presence at graduation will help ensure we can keep the community safe and without whose support, we would not be able to hold this graduation ceremony. Each student is allowed eight total tickets for family members to attend graduation. Tickets will be taken at the gate for the football field. Guests must have a ticket to be admitted. Graduation will be 6:00-7:00 p.m. and will be live-streamed and broadcast on FM radio that can be heard near the school. All guests must wear a mask, sanitize on the way in, answer COVID screening questions, maintain social distancing, and have a ticket. We are excited to be sharing these special last two weeks with your graduate. We are honored and blessed that you chose to send them to PLHS. We are sorry that COVID has taken so much of their senior year away from them and hope that these activities will give them some positive memories from their senior year to look back on. We would like to remind everyone that COVID is still spreading through the community. We lost a staff member last week and there are many infections in the community. We ask for your help in maintaining COVID-safety protocols throughout these activities, and especially at graduation by wearing masks, maintaining social distancing, staying home if you are sick, and helping keep our crowd size down by honoring our ticket quotas. Thank you!
Information for families of eighth graders about promotion.

Dear families of eighth grade Lakers, On Wednesday, May 26, we have several events related to eighth grade promotion we would like your student to participate in. First, we would like to invite them to attend school in-person that day, regardless of whether they are currently attending school virtually or in person. Transportation will pick up students in time to arrive at school for breakfast at 8:30. We will be collecting school technology, so please make sure you send them with all of the Chromebooks, chargers, and hot spots they have been issued. Students should wear a PLHS uniform shirt or a solid shirt that is maroon, black, grey, or white and should wear tan or black pants. Students will practice for their promotion ceremony while they are at school. At the end of the practice, students will be given the six tickets for their family. Students will be given lunch and then transportation will take them back home again. They will depart school at 1:00. The Promotion Ceremony will be at 6:00. Please make sure your child is at school in semi-formal attire at 5:30 so they are ready to participate. COVID safety protocols for the ceremony: the ceremony will be outdoors in the amphitheater. All guests are required to wear masks and will be temperature checked upon arrival. Due to COVID safety protocols, we can only accommodate up to six guests per student. If your student has not completed all the required credits to matriculate to high school, they will not participate in the ceremony. Please communicate with their advisory teacher or Charitie Carpenter, our parent and family liaison (carpenterc@plhs.us) if you have any questions. We are excited to celebrate your child as they move on to high school. We look forward to seeing you next Wednesday.

We lost a member of the Laker Family this week. Cheryl served as a bus driver and a teacher's aide and impacted the lives of children and families in the community. We grieve for our lost colleague and friend and for the community who lost a powerful supporter and defender of children. If your student is struggling with Cheryl's passing, please let us know and we will connect you and your child to a counselor.
