Meet the Counselor Team! July 29, 2021 Our school counseling team is excited to welcome you all back from an especially challenging year. We would also like to welcome our “new” guidance counselor Ms. Jacie Paulsen! Ms. Paulsen has been a part of the Laker family for the past four years teaching English and being involved in many other activities at PLHS. Ms. Paulsen will be joining Ms. Lynsie Dunn as the second member of our counseling team here at Pyramid Lake Jr./Sr. High School where we look forward to meeting the needs of all of our students. As School Counselors, our primary responsibilities are to promote the academic, career, and social/emotional development of all of our students. We look forward to offering support to our students, staff, families, and community. We will be meeting with students individually and in small groups, conducting classroom guidance interventions, meeting with parents, collaborating with teachers and staff, and consulting with community organizations to benefit and meet the needs of all Pyramid Lake Jr./Sr. High School students. At Pyramid Lake Jr./Sr. High School our Counselors will be the points of contact for the TMCC Jump Start program, transcripts, scheduling, and academic support, as well as therapeutic interventions and community referrals. Ms. Paulsen and Ms. Dunn can be contacted by email at paulsenj@plhs.us or dunnl@plhs.us If you have any questions or if you have any inquiries about specific counseling services. ❗❗❗We only have one sixth grade spot left!❗❗❗ We have been asked if eleventh graders can join us as distance learners and work on Edgenuity until a spot opens. Unfortunately, we can't do that. For a few reasons, we have to count our distance learners in our total enrollment.

enrollment totals for 8/2/21
Both the Centers for Disease Control and the American Academy of Pediatrics recommend that students attend school in-person this fall. Pyramid Lake Jr./Sr. High School is reopening in full to students on August 9, but will monitor the guidance of local and national health organizations as the pandemic develops. Because we need plenty of space for social distancing in our classrooms, we will be capping enrollment for each grade level at 24 students, except for 6th grade, which we will cap at 12 students. Priority will be given as follows: Returning students who finished the 2020-21 school year with us Students who live on the Pyramid Lake reservation Household members of Pyramid Lake Jr./Sr. High School students and staff Students coming from other areas We will not enroll any students who are not Pyramid Lake residents until after the first day of school, which is August 9. However, families can submit completed applications to be placed on a wait list.Masks will be mandated for all students and staff, re

2021-22 Welcome letter from our Interim Principal! School starts on Monday 8/9!
about 4 years ago, Sarah Russell
July 29, 2021 Dear Families, Welcome back to school! It is exciting to be welcoming students back into the building after five quarters and two summers away! It has been a strange last year-and-a-half and it has been our honor to be your family’s school through it all. Thank you for trusting us with the safety and education of your student. Who knows what the 2021-22 school year will bring? We will be able to stay open? Will we return to virtual instruction? No one can guess. We commit to doing everything we can to offer your student the best education possible in the safest environment possible. We have made some changes this year. We have a large group of students interested in participating in Jump Start, our dual credit program in partnership with TMCC. Because these students will be attending some classes at TMCC, we have changed our bell schedule to a block schedule. Students will have eight total classes. Mondays and Wednesdays will be A Days and Tuesdays and Thursdays will be B days. Students will attend classes 1-4 on A days and periods 5-8 on B days. They will also have Advisory every day. Class periods will be longer, but teachers will build in lots of activities and some break time. Our math programming is another change for this year. Students will have access to advanced math programming when they are ready for it. Most students will also have increased time and support in math class so we can help them become more confident in their math skills and make sure they are ready for opportunities like Jump Start, the millennium scholarship, and other college and scholarship opportunities based on ACT scores and high school transcripts. Another exciting change is that we have increased courses that focus on Native studies and local issues. These courses make PLHS unique and we are proud to be offering more of them. While we are excited about these changes and the opportunities they bring, we are also worried about COVID, the increasing cases of the Delta variant, and making sure students are safe. Please see the attached flyer for more information about some of our COVID safety measures. Please keep students home if they are sick or if they have spent 15 minutes in proximity to someone who has tested positive. We will communicate with you if we have reason to believe your student was exposed at school. We hope this pandemic is under control soon and PLHS can enjoy the great things about being Lakers: spending time with our Laker community and celebrating our Laker community. Whatever this year brings, we are honored to have your family with us for the 2021-22 school year and we will do everything we can to make sure it is joyous and successful for your student. Sincerely, Sarah Russell Interim Principal Pyramid Lake High School

End-of-year information for Laker and future Laker families!
over 4 years ago, Sarah Russell
May 26, 2021 Dear Lakers Families, We did it! We survived the 2020-2021 school year. I would like to go over some end-of-the-year logistics with you. Tonight is our eighth grade promotion ceremony. Tomorrow, May 27, is the last day of school. Friday, May 28, will be our high school graduation ceremony at 6:00 PM. Both the promotion ceremony and the graduation ceremony attendance will be limited to guests with tickets only. We are sorry that this means some people will not be able to join us, but we are limiting the crowd size due to COVID safety protocols. We thank you for your understanding. The graduation ceremony will be livestreamed on our Facebook feed and broadcast on FM 107.9. The FM broadcast will not reach very far, so you will need to be parked near (but not at the school) to pick up this broadcast. Tomorrow, May 27, if your student attends school in-person, please make sure you send them with all of their technology, including Chromebooks, chargers, and a hot spot if they have one. We will send students home at noon instead of 1:00 pm. If your student does not attend school in-person, our transportation department will come by on Monday, June 7 to pick up Chromebooks, chargers, and hotspots. Transportation will also be dropping off meals as part of our summer lunch program for students in Wadsworth, Nixon, and Sutcliff starting on Monday, June 7. If you don’t live in one of those communities and would like to participate in the summer lunch program, please reach out to the school. We will be running summer school on-line only. Our virtual instruction teacher, Shari Dunn, will be working with students using Edgenuity. If your child would like to enroll in an Edgenuity course for either middle school or high school credit this summer, please email Ms. Dunn at dunnsk@plhs.us. We hope all of your students and their cousins and friends are going to join us next school year. Registration for new and returning students who will be in grades 6-12 for the 2021-22 school year begins on July 26. The office is open between 8:00 am and 4:00pm Monday through Thursday. We are planning our back to school barbeque for Wednesday, August 5. The first day of school will be Monday, August 9. At this point, we are optimistic that we will be able to hold school in-person for all students, but that decision can change depending on COVID infection rates. We will keep you informed as we learn more. As you may have heard, the CDC has approved the use of the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine for children aged 12-15. Please Check your local Tribal Health Department for updates on the availability for vaccines for ages 12-15. We hope you and your family have a wonderful summer. It’s been a long year for everyone and you all deserve some relaxation and a little summer fun. We can’t wait to see students back in August! Thank you, Sarah Russell Interim Principal
